An Accounting Manager oversees an organization's daily accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and month-end closing. They ensure financial records comply with GAAP, produce accurate financial reports, supervise staff, and implement internal controls. They often report to a Controller or Director of Finance.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Financial Reporting & Analysis: Preparing timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, analyzing financial data for accuracy, and conducting variance analysis.
Operations Oversight: Managing daily accounting tasks (AP/AR, cash management, fixed assets, payroll) and improving, automating, or optimizing accounting processes.
Compliance & Audit: Ensuring compliance with US GAAP and local regulations, and coordinating annual audits with external auditors.
Team Leadership: Hiring, training, mentoring, and assessing the performance of accounting staff.
Budgeting & Strategy: Assisting in budget development, forecasting future financial needs, and providing financial insights to senior leadership.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Experience: Proven experience as an Accounting Manager, Supervisor, or senior-level accountant.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
Certification: CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) is frequently preferred or required.
Core Competencies: Strong leadership, analytical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of GAAP
